Lower Phase
At Earls Colne Primary School and Nursery the Lower Phase consists of Year 1 and Year 2.
There are two classes in each year group.
Our Year 1 classes are called Tigers and Lions. Tigers are taught by Mrs Webb on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday with Mrs Oldaker teaching for the rest of the week. Miss Buso is Lions class teacher throughout the week.
In Year 2 they are named Zebras and Giraffes. Mrs Parish teaches in Giraffes on Monday and Tuesday with Mrs Yallop teaching on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Mrs Yallop is currently on maternity leave and Mr Woodcock is teaching in her absence. Zebras are taught by Mrs Thompson from Monday to Wednesday and Mrs Downer on Thursday and Friday.
All classes are supported by our LSAs- Miss Taylor, Mrs Brown, Mrs Hughes, Miss Ives and Mrs Wood- every morning and carry out small group work in the afternoon.
Home Learning
All children in the Lower Phase are expected to read at home at least five times a week and to take time discussing the story, characters and predicting what might happen next. This should be logged by carers in their reading log books. In addition after Christmas, Year 2 children will be given a written reading comprehension task.
Children in Years 1 and 2 are given word walls for reading and a spelling grid linked to the phonics and common exception words that they have been learning in class. They are also set a weekly maths task using Numbots to support class-based learning.
Occasionally we will provide optional activities for children to complete at home, to compliment learning completed in class. These will be communicated via Class Dojo.
