Earls Colne Village, De Vere Park Mural Project
Earls Colne Primary School, along with Ramsey Academy, were approached by Eastlight Community Homes to transform the local Park by repainting a mural.
Children were first introduced to the project and the initial theme of ‘Nature around us’ during a whole school assembly. Children then discussed areas of nature around Earls Colne and sketched out ideas of what they would like the mural to look like in their own classes.
Many nature sites were identified such as;
-Tom’s Garden – a wooded area in the ECPS site
-The River Colne
-Local farmland
-Chalkney Woods
These ideas and designs were then used by Year 9 students from Ramsey Academy to form the final designs.
In April 2022, a collection of students from across the school, worked across two days to paint the designs onto the mural.
Chris Ward, an Eastlight Estate Co-Ordinator, said, “It was fantastic to work with the schools, Bell Group and local residents to see the mural transformed to such a high standard. Thank you to all involved – it’s a project to be proud of that communities will enjoy for years to come.”
Joe Hermon, Year 3, said, ”I enjoyed painting the long grass, the ruby red plants and the rocks on the river bed! “
Alfie Suff, Year 6, said, ”It was a very enjoyable activity and I was delighted to be involved because I got the chance to improve the park’s surroundings. I really enjoyed working with the younger members of the school! “
