Skip2bfit
On Thursday 21st and Friday 22nd April 2022, we were visited by David from the Skip2bFit company! Skip2Bfit uses counting skipping ropes to motivate everybody to exercise by challenging them to take the 2 minute Skip2Bfit Challenge. Each class participated in a workshop where David (our instructor) talked to the children about why it is important to exercise and what happens to the body when you exercise. The children were shown how to do a basic skip and then shown a demonstration of what can be achieved through practice – David can skip VERY fast!!!!
There was an assembly at the end of both days where prizes were handed out for the best skipper in each year group (and the best teacher too!) The top teacher and top overall pupil then competed in a ‘1 minute skip off.’ It was fun for our children (and the staff!) A huge thank you to Friends for agreeing to finance these workshops and provide our children with another fantastic experience.
Our children and parents had lots to say about the experience:
“It was really fun. I love skipping!” Lara, Year 1
“This is brilliant. I am definitely going to beat my personal best!” Alice, Year 2
“I liked skipping because I pushed myself and I got better.” Mila, Year 3
“I liked it because when you are skipping, you can see your improvements.“ Aliya, Year 4
“The skipping session was really fun and I enjoyed it. It made me feel happy and exhausted at the end. I would definitely do the 2 minute challenge at home.” Daisy, Year 5
“I learned how I can keep myself more fit.” Charlie, Year 6
“This has gone down a storm at home and not just with the kiddos (not that we’re a competitive bunch!) On a personal note, it’s made me realized just how unfit I actually am. We’ve challenged each other, let’s see where we are in 6 weeks after 2 minutes of skipping a day.” A parent
“My child loved this! She bought a rope and has been skipping for most of the weekend. She’s managed 208 skips in 2 minutes – impressive.” A parent

Our next aim is to set up a whole-school Skip2bFit challenge so the children can keep trying to beat their personal best and compete against each other within their year group.
Skipping is a great way to keep fit; 2 minutes of skipping is equivalent to running for 10 minutes! Perhaps you could have a family skipping competition at home?
